The Design: You're Walking Into Art History
Gran Destino Tower is themed around Destino, a collaboration between Walt Disney and artist Salvador Dali that was started in 1945 but wasn't completed until 2003, when Roy E. Disney finished it. The lobby is grand and airy, packed with details inspired by Spanish surrealism. The whole tower feels like a piece of surrealist history, and that's not marketing language. The artwork and design choices throughout genuinely earn that description.
The Room
We booked the standard view room and had a view of the parking lot. Even from there we could see EPCOT, Spaceship Earth, and Hollywood Studios with the Tower of Terror in the distance. The room itself was sleek and modern with plenty of outlets, USB ports, and a well-designed bathroom layout. Disney has been getting their newer resort room designs right, and Gran Destino is a good example. Functional and still genuinely stylish.
The elevator system in the tower is worth mentioning: instead of pressing up or down, you select your floor on a keypad and it assigns you to a specific elevator. Fast, smooth, and just a little futuristic. Another detail that makes the tower feel more deluxe than a typical moderate resort.
Barcelona Lounge
Located in the lower lobby, Barcelona Lounge works double duty as a coffee and pastry spot in the mornings and a Spanish-inspired cocktail bar in the evenings. We stopped here more than once. The stained glass backdrop for the bar was completed by hand by an artist and brought in all in one piece. It's also home to one of the biggest hidden Mickeys on Disney property. Worth looking for.
Three Bridges Bar and Grill
This is a fan favorite and now I know why. Open-air dining over Lago Dorado with views of the grounds. We started with the roasted corn dip, which was phenomenal. Creamy, cheesy, full of flavor. Ten out of ten. It's technically shareable, but only if you're willing. I ordered the crispy chicken wings: cooked perfectly, crispy outside, juicy inside, just a little warmth without being overly spicy. My husband had the ahi tuna salad with beautifully marinated and super fresh tuna. Our son Cooper went with the pork carnitas tacos, not overly spicy on their own but just right once he added the pickled jalapeños on the side. Every dish landed, and the open-air lake setting made the whole meal feel like more than it cost.
Dahlia Lounge
Just outside Toledo on the rooftop, Dahlia Lounge is a rooftop bar with views that could catch you fireworks in the distance if you time it right. Chic and modern with nods to Spanish surrealism throughout. A great stop before or after dinner, or honestly just on its own.
Toledo: The Rooftop Restaurant
We had dinner at Toledo, the signature rooftop restaurant, and this place blew us away. We ordered the Chef's Signature Dinner for two, which started with the Spaniard for Two: a board with Spanish cheeses, meats, and accompaniments. The second appetizer was a flight of four pintxos, small bites packed with bold flavors that made for a really impressive start.
For entrees, Cooper had the plancha-seared salmon, tender and flaky and cooked exactly right. We had the Chuletón bone-in ribeye, served with a tangy tomato frito sauce, olive oil, potato puree, and braised gigante beans. That ribeye was perfectly cooked, juicy, and honestly one of the best steaks I've had on Disney property. That's saying something. Dessert was the Toledo Tapas Bar dessert included in the chef's dinner, a fun little sampler with vanilla cheesecake, lemon curd, raspberry mousse, chocolate mousse, and Spanish coffee custard. A playful way to end a meal that was already better than expected.
The Grounds
Coronado Springs has beautiful grounds. You can walk around Lago Dorado and find hammocks in the shade or relax by the pool. The Dig Site is the main pool area with a Mayan pyramid, waterslide, and hot tub, plus a pool bar for snacks and drinks. The tower doesn't have its own dedicated pool, so this is your closest option. Coronado Springs is also one of the only moderate resorts with a fitness center, another benefit of its conference hotel setup.
As much as I enjoyed this resort, I don't think I'd stay here again without a car. Coronado Springs has an internal bus loop, and if you're planning to hit the parks heavily without your own vehicle, the extra transit time adds up. With a car, it's fantastic and you get the feel of a deluxe resort at a moderate price. Without one, there may be more convenient options depending on your park schedule.
Gran Destino is perfect for adult trips, couples, conference guests, or anyone who wants that upscale vibe without deluxe pricing. If your plan involves rope dropping and staying for fireworks every single day without a car, think carefully about the location logistics first.
Hard to believe this is classified as a moderate resort. The lounges, the dining, the views, the design, it punches well above its category.
