Polynesian Dining Tour: Every Spot We Tried and What to Know.

Ashley Disney's Polynesian Village Resort Polynesian Series, Ep. 3

The Polynesian has one of the widest dining ranges of any Disney resort, from a casual pool bar to fan-favorite character breakfast to one of the best burgers I've had on property. We tried most of it. Here's what actually stood out.

Full dining walkthrough: every spot, honest opinions, and what to order.

The Dining Lineup

During our stay we hit Captain Cook's for quick service, the Oasis Pool Bar for lunch by the quiet pool, Wailulu Bar and Grill for both breakfast and lunch, Kona Cafe for breakfast, Ohana for character breakfast, and Tambu Lounge for a drink. There's also Pineapple Lanai if you need a Dole Whip, and another pool bar near the main Lava Pool we didn't make it to this trip. Between everything we tried, the range goes from "grab and go" to "full sit-down character dining" and the quality varied about as much as you'd expect across that span.

If you're staying in the new Island Tower, Wailulu is your closest option and everything else on this list is a walk to the Great Ceremonial House. I get into that tradeoff in more detail in my full Island Tower review.

Captain Cook's: The Quick Service Workhorse

Captain Cook's is the main quick service spot and it works well for what it is. Fast, convenient, and open across multiple dayparts: breakfast, lunch, dinner, and a late night menu for when you come back from the parks hungry. The menu mixes standard Disney quick service with some Polynesian-inspired options, and there's plenty of outdoor seating.

We had lunch. The pulled pork nachos were genuinely good: topped with cheese, spicy mayo, pico de gallo, and pineapple salsa. A solid shareable if you're not looking for a full meal. I had the barbecue sandwich, which tasted great but came completely soaked through on the bottom bun. Eat it at a table with extra napkins, or pick something else if you're planning to walk and eat. Small thing, worth knowing.

Oasis Pool Bar: Exactly What It Should Be

We had lunch here one afternoon while spending time at the quiet pool, and it did exactly what a pool bar should do. Everything was surprisingly fresh. We both got burgers that tasted just like the quick service burgers you'd find in the parks, which is a compliment in this context. You grab your own condiments, which made our table look like a condiment explosion, but that's fine. It's that casual resort feel when you can eat in your swimsuit without feeling rushed. No complaints.

Wailulu Bar and Grill: The Unexpected Standout

This one surprised us the most, and I mean that in the best way. We came back twice.

For breakfast, we tried the cinnamon roll and the pineapple coconut bread. Both sweet and satisfying, quick to grab, and easy to take with you before heading to the parks. I had a cold brew with mine. Exactly right for an early morning.

Lunch was where it really delivered. The marinated pork chop was the best thing I ate during the whole stay. Spicy, sweet, tangy from the kimchi, and the potatoes that came with it may have quietly stolen the show. The Wayfinder Burger was also a legitimate standout, easily one of the best burgers I've had on Disney property. And the banana Old Fashioned was strong and delicious, which is always the right answer for a Disney cocktail.

If you want a deeper breakdown of everything at Wailulu, I have a full dedicated dining review video linked in the description.

Kona Cafe: The POG Juice is Still Worth It

We had breakfast at Kona Cafe and yes, that POG juice is exactly as good as you remember. I'm saving my full thoughts for the next episode, which compares Kona Cafe and Ohana side by side. But the short version: the macadamia nut biscuit was easily the best thing on my plate and worth ordering on its own.

Ohana: Character Breakfast Done Right

We did the character breakfast at Ohana and it was a genuinely great way to start a morning. Great food, high energy, and plenty of hugs from Mickey. If you're trying to decide between Kona Cafe and Ohana for breakfast, that full comparison is coming in episode four.

Tambu Lounge: Worth a Stop

Tambu Lounge sits right outside Ohana and it's a solid option if you want a fun drink and a comfortable place to sit without committing to a full meal. I tried the Backscratcher, which yes, comes with an actual wooden back scratcher. My son had the pomegranate lemonade. They have a few bar bites too. A nice reset spot in the middle of a resort day.

One More Thing Worth Knowing

Polynesian guests have access to gas grills near the quiet pool. If you're staying multiple nights and want to cook a meal or two, that option exists. It's also a practical choice for guests with specific dietary needs who want more control over what they're eating.

The Verdict

The Polynesian dining lineup is one of the strongest at any Magic Kingdom resort. A few spots are genuinely worth going out of your way for.

Worth prioritizing
  • Wailulu Bar and Grill, especially for lunch
  • The marinated pork chop and Wayfinder Burger
  • Tambu Lounge for a mid-day drink stop
  • Captain Cook's pulled pork nachos as a snack
  • Kona Cafe breakfast, specifically the macadamia nut biscuit
Manage expectations on
  • Captain Cook's BBQ sandwich: great flavor, terrible structural integrity
  • Oasis Pool Bar: good, not remarkable, totally fine for what it is
  • Ohana character breakfast: wonderful experience, but book it early
